Brian Gavin Signature Diamonds vs Brian Gavin Blue

Hi Danny, I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between Brian Gavin Signature and Brian Gavin Blue diamonds. I notice that diamonds from the Blue line cost a little less than the Signature Diamonds, but they both are graded by the AGSL and ideal cut. Are the Signature diamonds that much better? And are they worth the extra cost? - Tom S.

Brian Gavin Signature Diamonds:

The round brilliant ideal cut diamonds featured in the Brian Gavin Signature collection feature a crisp and complete pattern of Hearts & Arrows and have been cut to the most exacting standards possible.

Hearts and Arrows Diamonds like the one pictured to the left are extremely rare and difficult to produce because the pattern can only be produced when each facet of the diamond is perfectly symmetrical, evenly spaced, and precisely aligned with the facets opposite it and from top to bottom, it literally requires three dimensional alignment of all the facets of the diamond!

This superior level of optical symmetry combined with precise proportions which are in the center of the range designated for the zero ideal cut proportions rating as defined by the American Gem Society Laboratory (AGSL) results in a higher volume of light return and incredible sparkle factor.

Brian Gavin personally selects every diamond that is featured in the Brian Gavin Signature collection to ensure that it meets his strict selection criteria. These diamonds exhibit broad flashes of brilliance, dispersion and scintillation, and are guaranteed to impress!

As you've noted Tom, all of the diamonds featured within the Brian Gavin Signature and Brian Gavin Blue collections, are graded by the AGS Laboratory and have an overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0, but the diamonds featured in the Brian Gavin Signature collection all have a fluorescence rating of negligible with is the term used by the AGSL to describe levels of fluorescence from "none" to not enough to measure.

Brian Gavin Blue Fluorescent Diamonds:

All of the diamonds featured in the Brian Gavin Blue collection exhibit blue fluorescence when viewed under black light. The photograph of blue fluorescence which appears to the left was taken of a diamond from the Brian Gavin Blue collection as seen under black light in a completely dark room. The fluorescence is not readily visible when the diamond is viewed under normal lighting conditions. Fluorescence in diamonds is created by the presence of boron molecules which were present when the diamond was formed.

The majority of diamonds from the Brian Gavin Blue collection exhibit medium blue fluorescence, strong blue fluorescence, or very strong blue fluorescence, which tend to help boost the body color of the diamonds when they are exposed to strong ultra violet light.

The extra boost created by the presence of fluorescence can help to lift the body color of diamonds in the warmer tones of J-K-L and beyond, and makes those diamonds excellent options for people who are looking to maximize the carat weight of the diamond for their budget. Plus I think that blue fluorescence looks pretty cool when viewed in black light!

The diamonds featured in the Brian Gavin Blue collection are cut on the same production line as diamonds from the Brian Gavin Signature line, thus they exhibit the same volume of light return and sparkle factor. They simply cost a little less because fluorescence demands a slight discount in the market, as a result of an investment group which preferred diamonds without fluorescence back in the 1970's.
