Which is better halo or three stone ring?
“I’m planning on proposing right before Thanksgiving, we’re going back East to visit family for the holidays, and I know that everybody will be real excited about the union of our two families. I would like to have the ring in-hand by the beginning of November, no later than the 15th for peace of mind. I might be interested in having a ring custom made. Which do you think is better, a halo or three stone ring? We live a very active lifestyle and I’m concerned about prongs, and how high the ring will sit on her finger. Do you think that the halo setting makes the center diamond look larger? I’ve read reviews where some people say that the tiny diamonds serve no purpose, and other articles that indicate that it makes the diamond look bigger.”
Halo setting vs 3 stone ring:
It’s really all about personal preference, the reality is that the two styles of engagement ring are dramatically different. It’s like saying “coffee or tea” both are hot beverages, but completely different at the same time. Now if you do want a three stone setting that offers a really low profile on the finger, then consider the Summer 3 stone setting by Brian Gavin, which features two pear shape accent diamonds that are set nice and low on the ring shank. Obviously there is always going to be some height due to the depth of the center diamond, but this setting offers a really sleek design, which has a lower overall profile than a lot of three stone rings.
But as you can plainly see, the look of a three stone setting is dramatically different than the look of a halo setting. And I do think that the halo of diamonds that borders the center stone in the Tate halo setting by Jeff Cooper Designs does make the surface area of the round diamond appear to be larger in terms of the overall sparkle area. This will especially be true when the diamond ring is viewed from a distance, because the diamond halo will produce a larger circumference of sparkling light, thereby giving the illusion that the center stone is larger. There is also the additional sparkle created by the accent diamonds that run down the sides of the ring along the finger.
However, the sparkle created by the smaller accent diamonds will also be smaller in size, whereas the larger accent diamonds featured in a three stone ring will create sparkle that is slightly larger in size… Six and one half dozen of the other, as the saying goes. The decision to purchase a halo style engagement ring or a three stone setting remains a matter of personal preference, and each ring style offers unique style and benefits.
