Online shopping is popular for the 2013 holiday season
The holiday season is heralded by Black Friday and all the shopping that occurs thereafter. Though many shoppers chose to hit the stores Thanksgiving night this year, a large number decided to make holiday gift purchases from the comfort of their homes.
Online shopping stats
According to a survey conducted by Accenture, two out of five people will make the majority of their holiday gift purchases online. The number of people who went to stores to shop on Black Friday is nearly equal to the number of people who bought online on the same day. Of those surveyed, 28 percent chose to shop online in order to avoid holiday crowds.
The National Retail Federation found that approximately 42 percent of holiday shoppers bought something online over Thanksgiving weekend. However, many waited until Cyber Monday to make their purchases. Though the big online retail shopping weekend is over, sales are expected to continue.
"Despite record-breaking online shopping Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, holiday shoppers aren't done yet," Matthew Shay, NRF President and CEO, said in a press release.

You too can take advantage of online deals for your holiday gift purchases. The Internet is a great source for fine jewelry. In fact, the NRF survey found that 23 percent of shoppers planned to purchase jewelry online this holiday season. The important thing is to know who you are buying from.
