3 Stone Crossed Trellis Diamond Engagement Ring

3 Stone Crossed Trellis Diamond Engagement Ring

Hello Danny, I’m interested in the Brian Gavin three stone crossed trellis engagement ring (pictured above in 18k white gold) with a center stone weighing between 1.10 – 1.25 carats, in VS-2 clarity, H-I color, possibly with blue fluorescence if you think that is all right. Can you assist me with selecting the diamonds for this ring? I’m not exactly sure the best approach for selecting the three diamonds needed to complete the ring, nor what size they should be in order to provide a look which is balanced. – Ted D.

Diamonds with Medium Blue Fluorescence:

I took a look at our current inventory of Brian Gavin Blue diamonds with blue fluorescence Ted, and found an option which I think would be a perfect center stone for a three stone crossed trellis engagement ring. This 1.195 carat, I-color, VS-2 clarity, round brilliant ideal cut diamond exhibits medium blue fluorescence, and has an overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0 as determined by the American Gem Society Laboratory (AGSL) on their Proprietary Light Performance grading platform which uses Angular Spectrum Evaluation Technology (ASET) to measure the brightness of the diamond and provide insight into how light reflects through the diamond.

I absolutely love diamonds with blue fluorescence, because it can help the diamond face-up a little whiter and brighter than it might look without fluorescence, and it just looks cool when the diamond is exposed to black light.

There are some concerns as to whether higher levels of fluorescence can make diamonds appear foggy or milky, however an in-depth study conducted by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) determined that this occurs in fewer than 2% of gem quality diamonds. And in my experience, medium blue fluorescence is never an issue, it is primarily considered to be an identifying characteristic.

Selecting Accent Diamonds for a Three Stone Ring:

There are several different common scenarios that are used when selecting accent diamonds for three stone rings, some people prefer the look of accent diamonds which are about a third the size of the center stone, some people prefer accent diamonds which are about half the size of the center stone, and some people prefer larger accent diamonds which are about three quarters the size of the center stone… I generally prefer accent diamonds which are around half the size of the center stone.

With that in mind, I’ve selected this pair of matching half carat Brian Gavin Blue diamonds weighing 1.055 carats total weight, I-color, VS-2 clarity, with medium blue fluorescence. They provide what I consider to be a perfect balance for the center stone, and they even match the center diamond in terms of the degree of blue fluorescence.

By the way, I used the option provided to search for matched pairs of diamonds on the Brian Gavin Diamonds web site, and then clicked through the various options provided in order to find the pair which appealed to me most
