Why do people prefer martini earring settings?

“Valentine's is fast approaching and I want to get a jump on finding the perfect pair of diamond stud earrings for my wife, because I waited until the month of February last year and it was slim pickings! I was initially going to have the diamonds set in traditional four prong basket style settings in either 18k white gold or platinum, but have noticed a lot of chatter recently about martini style settings. Is there a reason why people prefer martini earring settings? And I’ve noticed that Brian Gavin offers two versions of martini settings, a classic martini setting and a handmade martini setting, which is best? And what is the best way to select diamonds for earrings?”

Classic Martini vs Handmade Martini style earrings:

So I’m sure that you noticed that the price of the handmade martini style settings in platinum is a little more than twice the price of the classic martini style settings. This is because the classic martini style settings are die-struck and made to fit diamonds of specific ranges of carat weight, and feature friction back posts and nuts. Whereas we make each set of handmade martini style earring settings by hand (that part is rather obvious, right?) and they feature la Pousette locking earring backs, which provide added security.

While both versions of martini style earring settings are extremely popular, I definitely prefer the look and added safety of the handmade martini earrings. I think that they have a better flow to them, and I like that each pair is made specifically to fit the Brian Gavin Signature round diamonds selected.

Based upon the feedback provided by our clients, it seems that people prefer martini earring settings because the three prong design allows the earrings to fit closer to the ear lobe, thus the earrings have a lower profile, and it seems that they are more comfortable than traditional four prong basket style settings.

How to match up diamonds for earrings:

The best way to match up diamonds for earrings, is to simply search for matched pairs of diamonds on Brian Gavin. Simply set the parameters to the range of total carat weight desired, along with the range of clarity, color, and price that you are interested in, and our diamond search engine will provide you with a list of the best matched diamonds for earrings.

Note that diamond earrings are sold by total carat weight, which is comprised of the total combined carat weight of both diamonds. So if you’re looking for a pair of diamond stud earrings where each diamond weighs a half carat, then you’ll want to set the sliders for a minimum carat weight of 1.00 carats, and perhaps set the upper end to something like 1.10 carats.

You will find an extensive assortment of Brian Gavin Signature diamonds available in a variety of sizes at the moment, because we are ramping up production in anticipation of a busy Valentine's Day! And diamond earrings are certainly one of the more popular gifts, so I’m happy to see that you’ve decided to tackle this project early this year!
