States' legalization of same-sex marriage may spike diamond engagement ring sales

States' legalization of same-sex marriage may spike diamond engagement ring sales

On August 1, 2013, same-sex marriage laws will go into effect in both Minnesota and Rhode Island. After the states' inductions, a total of 13 states throughout the U.S. will recognize same-sex marriage. There are an additional 15 countries (and parts of Mexico) that have same-sex marriage laws and domestic partnerships, according to CNN.

Same-sex marriage laws create an uptick in jewelry sales

It was released on July 15, 2013, that the House of Lords has passed Britain's gay marriage bill, which will enable gay couples to get married in both civil and religious ceremonies in England and Wales, reported USA Today. According to Mirror News, phone calls requesting matching engagement rings for men have already begun to flood a local jeweler's phone line. Retailers who offer custom diamond engagement rings may need to take a look at their own jewelry lines and advertising schemes to reach same-sex couples. Many same-sex couples are opting for simple, elegant men's bands to signify their commitment to each other.

Men's solitaire wedding bands also serve as engagement rings for same-sex couples

According to the jeweler, interviewed by Mirror, the most popular trend regarding engagement and wedding bands for same-sex couples tends to be a simple, masculine band with a single diamond set in the metal. Some unique, single-stone men's diamond wedding bands to consider include:

Men's Flat Brushed Band - Made from 18K gold, this blend of tough texture combined with a clean, single baguette diamond stone is a great option for same-sex couples who want to wear matching engagement or wedding band rings. The ring is also available in yellow gold, rose gold, palladium and platinum finishes. The total carat weight of the diamond is approximately 0.17 ctw.

Men's Princess - Another single stone option is the classic Men's Princess wedding band design. This custom piece features a single, princess cut diamond. The flush setting of the stone lends a contemporary, masculine design. Couples can select from palladium, platinum, yellow gold, white gold or rose gold finishes.

Prince P - The two princess cut diamonds featured on the Prince P men's wedding band are a third option designed by the Brian Gavin jewelry team. The band is 6 mm wide and features two 3 mm princess cut diamonds that have been set in the band, kite style. The overall esthetic of this style is more ornate than the single stone designs mentioned above, but just as sophisticated and on-trend.
