"Roughing It" with a 25 carat Forevermark® Diamond from Neiman Marcus
The top gift featured in the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book is a 25 carat rough diamond from the De Beers Forevermark line of diamonds. The gift package retails for 1.85 million dollars and includes first class travel accommodations for two people to London, Johannesburg, and Windhoek, and a custom designed setting.
According to the itinerary, the first leg of the adventure begins at the De Beers headquarters in London, where the recipient of the gift will be presented with the rough diamond, learn about the inscription process, and meet the diamond cutter who will cut the finished diamond.
There will also be a private guided tour of the Crown Jewels, and an opportunity to dine with De Beers CEO, Philippe Mellier, and Forevermark's CEO Stephen Lussier in the Tower of London.
Travel Deep Into the Heart of Africa with De Beers:
The gift recipient and a guest will be accompanied by a representative of Forevermark Diamonds for the second leg of the trip which will take them deep into the heart of Africa, where they will have the opportunity to visit the very place the diamond began its journey more than a billion years ago.
They will fly into Johannesburg and then travel to Namibia, where they will board a vessel to tour the offshore diamond mining facility where the 25 carat piece of diamond rough was found. Once back on land, they will visit a diamond rough sorting facility, and then a children's community project, which Forevermark Diamonds sponsors as part of an outreach project for the local population.
Designing a Custom Setting for a Forevermark Diamond:
Following the excursion to Africa, the gift recipient and guest will travel to New York, where they will meet with jewelry designer Maria Canale to create the perfect setting to showcase the polished Forevermark diamond.
De Beers Forevermark has even created a hardbound book to commemorate the journey and provide insight into the history of the diamond.
Neiman Marcus is promoting the "Roughing It" Forevermark Diamond package as the Ultimate Diamond Experience, and it certainly sounds like the adventure of a lifetime!
What makes Forevermark diamonds different?
The unique selling proposition promoted by De Beers for their Forevermark® diamonds is a unique inscription process which places the Forevermark diamond brand icon and a unique registry number within the center of the table facet, the inscription is not visible to the naked eye.
This differs from the inscription which is placed upon diamonds featured in the Brian Gavin Signature and Brian Gavin Blue collections, in that we place the inscription upon the girdle edge of the diamond.
According to their web site, the diamond cut quality standard for Forevermark diamonds is that they be finished to "a standard of very good or higher" while every Brian Gavin Signature and Brian Gavin Blue diamond is cut to meet the standards of the AGS Ideal-0 classification of the American Gem Society Laboratory (AGSL) which has the toughest diamond cut quality standards in the world.
How to Buy Forevermark Diamonds Online:
Brian Gavin does not sell Forevermark Diamonds, however the selection process for buying a Forevermark Diamond online is no different than it is for buying any other diamond...
When trying to choose between the various brands of diamonds which are currently available, we recommend comparing them based upon all of their characteristics, including all factors of diamond cut quality, and then choosing the brand which appeals most to your personal sense of quality and price.
This is no different than how experienced diamond buyers select inventory for diamond brokerages and retail jewelry stores, from different diamond cutters and production facilities, they begin by determining what range of carat weight, color, and clarity they want to consider, and then take into account the overall rating for diamond cut quality, including light performance, polish, symmetry and proportions.
Then compare the measurements for total depth, table diameter, crown angle, pavilion angle, girdle thickness, culet size, and select the option which is cut to a level of precision that will result in the highest volume of light return.
Next you will want to evaluate the options as seen through the various reflector scopes to judge the level of optical symmetry, because this will have a direct effect upon the sparkle factor of the diamond. We post images for each of our diamonds as seen through an ASET scope, Ideal Scope, and a Hearts and Arrows image for our Signature diamonds, so that our online customers can compare our diamonds with diamonds offered by other brands quickly and easily.
And of course, you will want to take the inclusions within the diamond into account. We provide video for every Brian Gavin Signature and Brian Gavin Blue diamond, so that our customers can see the sparkle of the diamond, as well as get an idea of the extent of the inclusions.
The video which we provide shows the diamond at a level of magnification which exceeds the industry standard of 10x and we also provide a traditional clarity photograph to make it easy for our customers to familiarize themselves with the clarity characteristics of every diamond in our inventory.
