I want this custom halo setting, but it’s too expensive!
Danny, I need your help! My girlfriend has been lurking on the Brian Gavin Facebook page and the Brian The Cutter Blog for quite some time and she’s fallen in love with the custom halo setting that was designed for the 1.77 carat Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond. Now I couldn’t find this setting on the web site, but found the round square halo setting that it is based upon and it is within my reach, but the 1.76 carat, G-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond that would enable me to duplicate the ring design is way, way more than I’m prepared to spend, it’s circa $20K and I was hoping to be more around $15-17K for the entire ring. My girlfriend really wants this ring and I really want to buy it for her, but there’s no way I can afford to spend $25K on a diamond engagement ring, no way… What do you suggest? What would you do if you were in my shoes? How can I massage the characteristics of the diamond and/or the engagement ring to make this happen? I really appreciate your advice! – Tony S.
How to get the most diamond for your budget:
The engagement ring dilemma that you describe is not uncommon Tony, I think that every guy wants to buy the engagement ring of his girlfriend’s dreams and as much as they might appreciate it, I think that the majority of women would not want us to experience this kind of anguish over buying them an engagement ring… sure, your girlfriend loves the square halo setting that we custom made for the 1.77 carat, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond, and she would probably love it if you bought her something similar to it, but it is highly doubtful that she expects you to break the bank to buy her that exact same engagement ring, made to the exact same specifications!
I’m sure that she’d be tickled pink with the same ring design, set with something a little smaller like this 1.522 carat, H-color, SI-1 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond, or this 1.524 carat, I-color, VS-1 clarity, BGD Signature Cushion cut diamond, either of which will look amazing in the square halo setting and the reality is that there isn’t that much of a visual difference between a 1.50 and 1.75 carat diamond from across the dinner table. The picture to the left is a frame captured from the high resolution video of the 1.524 carat, I think it’s a diamond that will capture her heart and once the ring is on her finger, she won’t give that 1.77 carat from the first ring we made another thought. I don’t see any reason to push beyond the parameters of the price range which you’ve designated for this project, your budget is more than adequate to purchase a gorgeous version of this ring! And if you want to bring the price down just a little bit more, consider this 1.378 carat, I-color, VS-1 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond.
The reality is that everybody is working within a budget when they purchase a diamond engagement ring, or anything else for that matter. The trick is to find a ring style that appeals to you and your girlfriend and then figure out a way to emulate that ring design in a manner that works within the budget that you have to work with.
