How to pair a colored wedding dress with wedding jewelry
When little girls visualize their weddings, they usually see themselves walking down the aisle in a snow white gown.
While many brides still go for the traditional white dress, a growing trend is to pick a different color for the dress. Whether a woman is non-traditional or just loves colors in all aspects of her life, colored wedding gowns are becoming more accepted and popular as viable options if the bride doesn't like or want to wear the big white gown.
What colors can wedding dresses be?
Bridal gowns are now available in all shades of the rainbow. Depending on your preference, you can chose a variety of colors and hues. Each color also means something, so that can be tied into the wedding theme or the bride's personality.
Traditional white gowns are associated with innocence, purity and goodness. White is sometimes thought to be the color of perfection, and will probably always be the go-to wedding dress color.
Similarly, if white is too stark, ivory is a good second option. Ivory might match skin tones or hair colors better if a white dress washes you out.
Pink dresses also represent innocence, as well as freshness and child-like enthusiasm. Pink symbolic of femininity and can also be seen as a flirtatious hue.
Blue is associated with peace and calm feelings, as well as stability and loyalty. Blue is also the color of water and could be a good choice if you're having a beach or outdoor wedding.
Red is a bold choice that also symbolizes love, strength, energy and passion. Red can be a literal display of the love you're celebrating on your wedding day and is perfect for the bride who wants to make a serious statement.
Black may be seen as an odd choice for a wedding because it's the opposite of white, but it's also the color of elegance and class (think black-tie affair) as well as power, mystery and style. Black is another color that's sure to make a statement.
Matching jewelry to a colored wedding dress
If your custom engagement ring has colored jewels, that could be a starting point for choosing a dress. You can pick a color that matches the dress - for example, pairing a pink dress with pink diamonds. Alternatively, you could choose a color that compliments the jewels. For example, if your ring has emeralds, they will stand out and shine against a black dress.
Diamond jewelry, no matter the diamond cut or shape, will look beautiful with any dress color. If you're wearing a classic engagement ring and decide to go strictly with diamonds for your wedding band, earrings and any other pieces to be worn on the big day, you can stay traditional with a white or ivory gown, or take the less traditional colored route.
If you decide to pick the gown first and jewelry second, choose options in the same color family or opposing color families. If you choose to make a statement with a red or black gown, you can wear rubies or black diamonds. On the other hand, you could also wear yellow diamonds to compliment the black or red but the jewels will still make a statement on their own. If a blue dress is the one for you, the jewelry can be made of sapphires to stay within the color family or chocolate (brown) diamonds because blue and brown create a beautiful color scheme.
No matter what you end up decided in terms of colors, as long as you are happy and have an amazing wedding that's all that matters!
