How to Choose a Men’s Wedding Band

Although not discussed as often as diamond engagement rings for women, the reality is that design trends for men’s wedding bands, also known as gents wedding bands, have evolved quite a lot over the past few years… however most men still tend to gravitate the time honored classics that we grew up seeing being worn by our fathers and grandfathers.

The Half Round style Gents Wedding Band

Perhaps this is because modern wedding band designs are still based upon the foundational structure of three basic styles of men’s wedding rings, the most common of which is the half round wedding band from Brian Gavin which is pictured to the left. This style of wedding band is aptly named because the inside edge is flat and the outside is round, making it a “half round wedding band” which in this particular instance has been spiced up by the addition of a milgrain edge which acts as a border along the outer edges of the ring. The half round wedding ring is probably the most popular wedding band of all time, the odds are that your father is wearing one right now…

The Classic Men’s “Comfort Fit” Wedding Band

The next most popular style of men’s wedding band which has stood the test of time is definitely the comfort fit wedding band, which is based upon the basic design of a half round wedding band, but features a sloped edge which acts as a transition between the upper portion of the ring which is rounded and the inner edge of the ring which is flat… you can see the transition point that I am referring to in the photograph of a Brian Gavin Comfort Fit wedding band that is pictured to the RIGHT. The slight angle featured on the inside of the ring, makes the edge of the ring less noticeable, hence the term “comfort fit”.

The Men’s Flat Wedding Band, a.k.a. “Pipe Band”

It should be pretty obvious why the men’s flat wedding band pictured to the left, is frequently referred to as a “pipe band” because it kind of resembles a 4 mm wide section that has been cut out of a pipe. A men’s flat edge wedding band features flat edges all the way around the circular ring. Interestingly enough, this very basic style of gent’s wedding ring is also one of the most popular, perhaps because it offers simple, clean lines which men find appealing. These three styles of men’s wedding rings provide the basic building blocks which practically all other styles of gent’s wedding rings are built upon.

This isn’t your Father’s wedding band

While Classic Men’s Wedding Bands from Brian Gavin remain a popular choice because they are based upon design elements which are timeless, modern adaptations based upon those timeless designs are gaining in popularity. This men’s flat brushed finish wedding band which is set with a baguette shaped diamond for instance, is a design which is built upon the foundation provided by the traditional flat edge or “pipe cut” wedding band pictured above and it definitely isn’t your father’s wedding band! And there are many other styles of gents’ wedding bands available from Brian Gavin, both with and without diamonds to be found on our web site!
