Tips for Buying an Engagement Ring Online

Hey Danny, my head is reeling from a recent bad experience that I had with another online diamond dealer who shipped me the wrong diamond, and between the time I ordered it and discovered the mistake, the diamond which I had originally ordered was sold out from under me… I’m a bit hesitant to take a chance ordering something this significant online again, but it turns out that a friend of mine recently purchased a classic style solitaire diamond engagement ring from Brian Gavin and it is absolutely what I’m looking for! I’m looking for something around 1.20 – 1.49 carats, F-G color, VS clarity, for around $10-12k. What do you suggest? – Dylan H.

The difference between physical and virtual inventory:

One of the most important factors which distinguish the different companies selling diamonds online is that the vast majority of them operate by advertising virtual inventory which is not actually in their possession, which makes it kind of questionable when they say things like “Choose from our inventory of 500,000 diamonds” because the odds are that very few, if any of them are actually in their physical possession, and thus their “diamond inventory” isn’t really theirs.

The fact that the diamonds are not actually in their physical possession, makes it practically impossible for the vendor offering the diamond to be able to tell you anything about the diamond with any degree of accuracy, everything which they might be able to tell you about the diamond is based upon the opinion of the diamond cutter or diamond wholesaler who owns the diamond… and ultimately the diamond is probably going to be shipped direct from the supplier to the end-user who purchases the diamond, and this is where problems like the wrong diamond being shipped occur, and when you contact the vendor in hopes of resolving the problem, you get thrown into a whirlwind of third party confusion, filled with he said / she said, and are you positive?

Brian Gavin thinks that this business model is a recipe for disaster, which is why every Brian Gavin Signature and Brian Gavin Blue diamond is tucked away safely in our vault. We don’t have to call the cutter or the wholesaler to find out the specifics of a diamond in our inventory, because we own it and it is located on the premises. This mode of operation enables us to provide our clients with the most in-depth and detailed information possible, so that you have all of the information necessary to make an informed and accurate decision.

The diamond which I’ve selected for your consideration Dylan, is this 1.215 carat, G-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin round ideal cut diamond from the Brian Gavin Blue collection of diamonds with blue fluorescence, this diamond exhibits medium blue fluorescence and looks simply stunning! But before you purchase it, I’m going to use it as an example of the difference that exists in the degrees of optical symmetry, so that you can better identify the Differences between Ideal Cut Diamonds.
