Does cut quality of halo diamonds matter?

“I’m shopping for a halo style diamond engagement ring and really like some of the designs offered by Brian Gavin, but they seem kind of expensive to me in comparison to some of the other stuff I’ve found online from the big box store style sites. One of the things that I noticed is that the descriptive paragraph for the accent diamonds indicates that they are Brian Gavin Signature melee. Upon further investigation, I discovered that this means that the accent diamonds are cut to the same specifications as larger Brian Gavin Signature round diamonds. Is that really necessary? Does the cut quality of halo diamonds matter that much? They’re not very big, how much of a difference can cut quality make on accent diamonds?”

Diamond Cut Quality matters regardless of size:

The fact of the matter is that proportions and overall cut quality of a diamond have a direct influence upon the volume of light return and the sparkle factor, regardless of size or carat weight. Brian Gavin Signature melee cut diamonds are produced to the same specifications as larger Brian Gavin Signature round diamonds because it makes a difference as to how stunning the ring will look as a whole.

A short time ago, we had the opportunity to custom design the Anita halo setting in Platinum for a client who had purchased another halo setting from one of our “competitors” online, she didn’t like the way the accent diamonds looked in the ring and returned it for a refund. The Anita halo setting is named after Anita, who absolutely loved how the accent diamonds in the ring that we designed for her sparkled, and it has been a very popular design of halo setting, which is also made for cushion cut diamonds.

What kind of sparkle should you expect from a ring?

Sure we could cut corners on diamond cut quality like everybody else seems to be doing, and reduce the price of our settings a little bit. But what is the point of buying a super ideal cut diamond like those featured in the Brian Gavin Signature collection, if you’re just going to surround it by a bunch of accent diamonds that are dull and lifeless? That would be like buying a Rembrandt and mounting it in a five dollar frame from a five and dime art store.

At Brian Gavin Diamonds we believe that it is our job to create the most stunning diamond engagement rings and jewelry possible. We custom make each ring to fit the specific diamond that it has been ordered for, we don’t mass produce settings for wide ranges of carat weight, and then try to make the diamond fit the setting, because this often results in there being too much room around the diamond, and that causes the entire ring to look out of balance.

Note that we offer an extensive selection of halo style engagement rings, and that the price of the setting is affected by the total weight of accent diamonds contained in the ring. Sometimes finding a halo setting within the price range that you’re hoping for is as simple as selecting an option with a slightly lower total carat weight of accent diamonds. Our customer service department will be happy to assist you with selecting the best option available for your price range.
