Introducing the Brian Gavin Select Cushion

The new Brian Gavin Select Cushion cut diamond is absolutely breathtaking. As well they should be given the precise proportions and patented design. In that case, these cushion cut diamonds are likely to outperform anything that crosses their path. With exception of a Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond of course.

As a matter of fact, the Brian Gavin Signature Select Cushion cut diamonds are the ones that didn’t make the cut for our Signature line. While that might sound a little bit harsh at first, it’s important to understand the exacting nature of our Signature collection.

Reinventing the Cushion Cut Diamond:

In the first place, Brian Gavin redesigned the cushion cut diamond from the ground up. In doing so, he created a facet pattern so unique that it is patented. Although that may be true, that’s a fact that pales in comparison to the light performance.

As a matter of fact, the light performance is off the charts! In fact, the Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond is one of the few fancy shape diamonds capable of getting an overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0. At the same time, the broad-spectrum sparkle factor is more vivid and intense than what standard cushion cut diamonds produce.

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder:

Those of us who know Brian Gavin well, know that he is a perfectionist. As such, he is always striving to improve the light performance and sparkle factor of every diamond we produce. Be that as it may, the reality is that not every diamond can be perfect.

As a matter of fact, there is no such thing as perfection in the world of diamond cutting. That’s because every diamond is turned on the wheel by hand. As such, there are always going to be minor differences in the degree of optical precision. However, they aren’t the type of thing that anybody is going to see with the naked eye.

In fact, at this level of the game, the only way to really tell the difference is by using an ASET Scope. That’s the scope that we use to judge light performance and see how evenly light is reflecting throughout the diamond. Anyway, there are obviously going to be varying degrees of perfection as seen through the ASET Scope because the magnification enables us to see things in more detail. And it’s from that vantage point, that Brian Gavin decides whether to put a diamond in the Signature or Select collections.

Hitting a Homerun by Striking Out:

If you’re a baseball fan, then you probably know that Reggie Jackson holds the record for the number of times he has struck out. As a matter of fact, he stepped up to the plate 9,864 times in his 21-year career.

During that time, his hit count was 2,584 and his lifetime batting average was .262 which means that he was successful only 25% of the time. In other words, he hit the ball only 2.5 times for every 10 times he stepped up to bat.

Although that may be true, Reggie Jackson is recognized as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. In a similar fashion, Brian Gavin is well known throughout the industry for his expertise in diamond cutting. As a matter of fact, he’s the only diamond cutter in the world with a patent for maximizing light performance in the modern round brilliant cut diamond.

In addition, he is the creator of the patented Black by Brian Gavin Diamonds, the Signature Cushion, and the Signature Emerald cut diamonds. Although that may be true, not every piece of diamond rough lends itself fully to the demanding criteria of the Black and Signature collections.

In other words, there are times when it just doesn’t make sense to keep polishing a diamond in an attempt to improve it further. Under those circumstances, there are slight variances in the degree of optical precision that prevent the diamond from making it into the Black or Signature collections. But that doesn’t mean that the diamond is any less spectacular looking beyond the harsh conditions created by the ASET Scope.

What Level of Perfection Will You Select?

In the first place, we know from experience that the Brian Gavin Select Cushion cut diamonds are likely to outperform the majority of standard cushion cut diamonds. Even those with a polish and symmetry rating of GIA Excellent are likely to pale in comparison because they leak a lot of light. Whereas the Brian Gavin Select Cushion cut diamonds to perform extremely well as seen through the ASET Scope.

They’re just not going to look as precise as a Black by Brian Gavin or Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond under the same devices. In that case, it made sense for Brian Gavin to create a new collection of select diamonds that provide you with a new set of options.

With that in mind, it’s up to you to decide what level of perfection appeals to your personal sense of balance. In the event that you are looking for a cost-effective alternative that is going to outperform the majority of standard cushion cut diamonds, then a Brian Gavin Select Cushion is a perfect choice. We like to think of the performance as being in the realm of a Porsche 911.

Of course, there is a higher level of performance available in the form of a Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond. That’s because the higher degree of optical precision creates a sparkle factor that is even more vivid and intense. In that case, we like to think of it as being in the performance class of a Porsche 911 Turbo.

And then, there are the Black by Brian Gavin Cushion cut diamonds that exhibit the highest degree of optical precision. That means that there is an even higher volume of light return and the sparkle factor is even more vivid and intense. As such, we like to think of them as being in the (light) performance class of a Porsche GT3 RS.

Regardless of what level of performance you seek in a cushion cut diamond, it’s obvious that Brian Gavin has the one that is right for you. The only question is what level of performance are you going to choose.
