Will Brian Gavin set a diamond in a ring purchased from ***

“I’m absolutely sold on the idea of buying a Brian Gavin Signature round diamond because all of the reviews which I’ve read about them online are simply stellar, and every indication is that the proportions and cut quality are the very best! But the setting that my girlfriend is in love with is only available from who has informed me that they will not set a diamond purchased from Brian Gavin, or any other diamond wholesaler. Which leads me to wonder whether Brian Gavin is willing to set a diamond purchased from Brian Gavin, in a setting purchased from another jeweler online?"

Brian Gavin will set a diamond in rings purchased elsewhere:

Thank you for your inquiry. Brian Gavin Diamonds will set a diamond purchased from either the Brian Gavin Signature or Brian Gavin Blue collections of ideal cut diamonds, in a setting purchased from another vendor, however we will not assume responsibility for any problems that might result from any material or structural problems that may exist with the setting, because there can be a dramatic difference in the quality of materials and workmanship applied to jewelry items.

Naturally we can inspect the setting upon receipt and advise you of any obvious issues that we see with the setting, and in most cases setting a diamond does not present a challenge for our bench jewelers.

Having a ring custom made by Brian Gavin:

One thing you might consider is simply having the ring custom made by Brian Gavin, the ring, which you sent me a picture of, is something which we could make, and even improve upon in terms of design, because I think that we could design it so that the transition between the prong section of the ring runs more smoothly into the ring shank, and believe that the diamonds would look better if they were set using micro-pave instead of being prong set like they are. I’m not trying to bag on the other ring, but I definitely see room for improvement, and this is the type of thing that comes from years of experience designing jewelry.

And I’d like to point out that the difference in cost between buying the stock ring out of the online catalog presented by the other vendor, and having a similar ring custom made by Brian Gavin, is not all that different… and we’re going to use diamonds which are higher in clarity and higher in color, and the diamond cut quality of the accent diamonds set in the ring are going to be the same as the Brian Gavin Signature diamond being set as the center stone, so the volume of light return and sparkle factor will be comparable.

Another advantage to having your engagement ring custom designed by Brian Gavin, is that we’re going to make the ring to fit the center stone which you’ve selected from the Brian Gavin Signature collection of ideal cut diamonds, whereas I notice that the setting which you selected is pre-fabricated to accommodate diamonds of a specific range of carat weight, which in this particular instance is 1.00 – 1.25 carats, which is a pretty broad range in terms of the difference in the outside diameter of diamonds in that weight category. It’s kind of like the difference between buying a suit coat off the rack in a department store, and having one custom made to fit your specific proportions and body type.
