What is the process if I want to design a ring from scratch?
“There are several rings offered by Brian Gavin that are close to what my girlfriend and I are looking for, but nothing that is “close enough” if that makes sense. It’s kind of like we like the halo section from one ring, but the ring shank of another, and the way the ring shank flairs out on another setting, but then we’re a bit concerned what a ring might look like if it is pieced together from the design concepts of several different rings… But think that the ring might look exceptional if designed from scratch with those concepts in mind. I know that Brian Gavin custom designs engagement rings, but assume that is more of a custom alter certain designs type of service?”
Designing a ring from scratch:
Regardless of whether you want to custom alter certain aspects of an existing ring offered in our collection of Brian Gavin Signature engagement rings, or design a ring from scratch, the custom jewelry design division employed by Brian Gavin is capable of doing just that. We specialize in designing rings from scratch, creating jewelry designs from the ground up, or more specifically from the grid up, since a lot of the designs are created using state-of-the-art computer aided design (CAD) and then generated using computer aided milling (CAM) machines.
If you or your girlfriend happen to be artistic, then grab a piece of paper and a pencil, and let your creative juices flow. Or perhaps if you’re more comfortable on a computer, put together a digital compilation of the ring features that you like from other designs and send it to us. Even a rudimentary sketch on a napkin is a good start, we’ve designed a lot of rings that started out that way. The only thing that we ask is that you leave some of the specifics of the design concept to us so that we can design a ring for you that features the design concepts that you desire, but also meets our strict production standards and maintain the integrity of the ring structure.
For example, we’re not going to be able to set a heart shape diamond this way, but you can draw it like that to indicate that a heart set diamond is being set in the ring! We’ll need a few days to create the model of the custom ring based upon your sketch, and then we’ll send you some images of the ring design that are created by the CAD / CAM program for your approval. Any alterations and fine tuning of the ring design can be made at that time, if any are necessary at all. Upon receipt of your approval of the ring design, we’ll cut the wax, cast the ring, set the stones, and ship it to you via Fed Ex, so you can drop down on one knee and propose!
