What is a Classic Style Knife Edge solitaire?

Hi Danny, awhile back my girlfriend dropped the hint that she really liked the classic knife edge style solitaire, and being the sly guy that I am, I let that comment sail right on by as if I didn’t even hear it… Well it’s time to act on that hint and I want to buy her a one carat diamond set in a knife edge solitaire, but I have to say that the name doesn’t exactly sound appealing. What is a classic knife edge solitaire, and is the edge of the ring actually sharp? And do you have any recommendations for the largest, most beautiful diamond that I can get for around 10k – 12k including the ring, she likes white gold; and I know that blue is her favorite color, so something with blue fluorescence would be cool! – Tom C.

The classic Knife Edge Solitaire from Brian Gavin:

The classic knife edge style solitaire from Brian Gavin is designed with a ring shank which comes out to a point on the edge, but which is flat on the inside of the ring where it wraps around her finger… This shank style is referred to as a “knife edge” because it comes out to a point, but the edge is not actually sharp, in fact the ring is quite comfortable and this is one of our most popular styles of engagement rings. One of my favorite details about the classic knife edge style solitaire is the design of the crown which holds the diamond center stone, the prong structure is absolutely beautiful and the head flows into the ring seamlessly, it’s simply stunning!

Blue Fluorescent Diamond for Engagement Ring:

As soon as I read your email, I knew exactly which diamond I wanted to recommend because I was sitting in the diamond grading room talking with Brian when this diamond was being photographed and it looks incredible! The medium blue fluorescence looked so cool when the diamond was being photographed under the black light in a pitch black room! This 1.117 carat, G-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Blue diamond is THE BOMB and it will look amazing set in a knife edge style solitaire. As you’re probably already aware, all of our Signature diamonds are cut to AGS Ideal-0 proportions and the highest level of optical symmetry, so they exhibit a lot of light and are extremely bright.
