Two celebrity stars rang in the New Year by announcing their engagements to their long term boyfriends, Olivea Palermo announced her engagement to Johanes Huebl, and Caroline Wozniacki accepted the proposal of Rory McIlroy.

Reality star Olivia Palermo, best known for her role in "The City" and German model Johannes Huebl, announced their engagement on New Year's Day via this video posted to Instagram featuring Olivia Palermo happily spinning through the lush landscape of St. Barts where the couple was vacationing for the holidays. It is difficult to get a clear shot of the ring in the video, but it appears to be made of yellow gold and set with an emerald or possibly radiant cut center stone… We’ll anxiously await additional photos of the ring to be posted to see if my interpretation of the ring is accurate, but whatever shape diamond it turns out to be, it looks big!

Golf pro Rory McIlroy announced his engagement to tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki with this picture that he posted to Twitter, ringing in the New Year with what he is calling his first win of 2014. The ring appears to consist of a large cushion cut diamond cradled in a halo setting which is platinum or white gold, similar to the Allie halo setting from Brian Gavin Diamonds which could be customized to accommodate a Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond to achieve the same look. Based upon the spread of the diamond across Caroline’s finger, I’d say that the diamond is at least as big as this 3.07 carat, J-color, VVS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond!

And of course, this 3.07 carat, J-color, VVS-2 clarity, BGD Signature Diamond is fit for a star! As with every Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond, it delivers the highest volume of light return possible for a cushion modified brilliant cut diamond, because it has been cut to exacting proportions, with an overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0 from the American Gem Society Laboratory.

Brian Gavin Cushion Cut Diamonds fit for a Star!

The exceptional degree of optical symmetry that this diamond has been cut to is evident by the beautiful hearts pattern displayed by the diamond (pictured left) when it is viewed while unmounted through a Hearts & Arrows scope. The majority of cushion cut diamonds lack any sort of optical symmetry because they are cut from pieces of diamond rough of different shapes, which makes it practically impossible to maintain any sort of consistency during the cutting process in terms of facet structure. Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamonds are cut from the same diamond rough that our round ideal cut diamonds are cut from, thus it is easy to maintain the symmetry of the stone.

The benefit of cutting a diamond to AGS Ideal-0 proportions while maintaining a high degree of optical symmetry within the facet structure is that the diamond will exhibit a higher amount of light return and exhibit larger flashes of light, along with more sparkle. Thus Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamonds are brighter and exhibit more brilliance, dispersion and scintillation than most other cushion cut diamonds.

If you want the diamond in your fiancés engagement ring to sparkle like a star, there really isn’t any other choice than a Brian Gavin Signature Diamond.
