Fishtail Pave Engagement Ring with Truth Head

Pave side stones vs round brilliant side stones

“I’m shopping for a diamond engagement ring and am confused about the difference between pave side stones versus round brilliant side stone. Does one diamond shape look better than the other for side stones? Is there a difference in price between pave side stones and round brilliant cut diamonds? My girlfriend expressed an interest in a setting with pave set stones in the band, but I’ve also seen similar designs described as having round brilliant cut side stones and don’t know which is better. Can you make some recommendations? I’m looking for options for a 1.50 carat Brian Gavin Signature round.”

Understanding Pave set side stones:

This is a subject that people get confused about all the time. The term “pave set” refers to a style of setting round brilliant cut diamonds, in such a way that they resemble a street that is paved with diamonds. The prongs are small enough that they draw less attention away from the accent diamonds, thus it looks like the ring shank is paved with diamonds.

The Fishtail pave setting by Brian Gavin pictured above is a perfect example of a ring shank that is covered with pave set diamonds. The prongs are small enough that they maximize the visible surface area of the diamond, and in this case are set more off to the side of the ring.

The four prong Truth Head setting offers an elegant alternative to a traditional four prong style head, and is also designed to maximize the visible surface area of the ring while maintaining a lower profile for the overall ring to set upon the finger. It would look stunning with a 1.50 carat, Brian Gavin Signature round diamond as the center stone.

Pave settings with round brilliant cut diamonds:

The top surface of the diamond is completely covered with round brilliant cut diamonds that have been pave set, as are the sides of the ring. The presence of diamonds set on all visible surfaces of the ring makes the ring sparkle from virtually every vantage point. This style of ring is extremely popular for diamonds of all sizes.

Brian Gavin uses Brian Gavin Signature Melee diamonds in the design of all Brian Gavin Signature engagement rings, to ensure that the accent diamonds that are pave set will deliver the same high volume of light return, and incredible sparkle that larger Brian Gavin Signature round diamonds provide.
