I think that the optimum combination of quality for me would be G-color and VS-2 clarity. I’m told that this combination of color and clarity will ensure that a 4 carat diamond faces-up eye clean and bright white. Is this true? Do you have other recommendations as to the best color and clarity for a 4 carat diamond? Note that I was unable to locate any 4 carat, G-color, VS-2 clarity, diamonds in your inventory. Which is why I’m asking how much is a 4 carat diamond. Thank you for your time.”
Prices for 4 carat diamonds:
The price of a four carat diamond depends on the exact combination of carat weight, color, clarity, and cut quality. The price of a 4 carat diamond is going to be significantly higher than the price of a one carat diamond of the same quality. It will also be significantly higher than four times the amount of a one carat diamond. The reason for this is due to rarity of larger diamond rough crystals.
The diamond rough used to produce a one carat diamond is going to weight between 2.00 – 2.50 carats on average. While the size of diamond rough required to produce a 4 carat diamond, is going to be more like 8 – 10 carats and maybe a little more. It all depends on the nature and structure of each piece of diamond rough, which is as unique as a snowflake.

We don’t have a 4 carat, G-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature round diamond to use as a basis for price at the moment. So let’s use this 4.09 carat, H-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature round diamond which exhibits medium blue fluorescence. The current price for this diamond is $94,550.00 which will be discounted to $91,713.00 for payment via cash / wire transfer. The price of this 1.01 carat, H-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature round diamond is $7,910.00 with an additional discount available for payment via cash / wire transfer.
Thus, you can see that the price of a 4 carat diamond is dramatically higher than the price for a 1 carat diamond of comparable clarity, color, and cut quality.
How big is a 4 carat diamond?
Recently, one of our clients asked how large this 4.19 carat, H-color, VS-2 clarity, Black by Brian Gavin round diamond which measures 10.34 x 10.38 millimeters (see pic above). Most people have difficulty picturing what a 4 carat diamond is going to look like, but are familiar with a dime.
