The findings are based upon a survey that consisted of more than twenty wholesale distributors of fancy colored diamonds. The index of prices for fancy color diamonds takes into consideration prices for fancy pink, fancy yellow, and fancy blue color diamonds, and found that the average prices for diamonds in these categories increased approximately one percent between April to July of 2015.

The highest increases were seen in the range of one carat fancy blue color diamonds, and one carat fancy vivid yellow color diamonds, which both went up about four percent. Fancy vivid blue in the three to ten carat range increased by as much as 4-6%. And eight to ten carat pink fancy color diamonds, in the range of intense to vivid intensities, increased as much as 5-6%.

According to the FCRF: “Core pricing data used for the Index has been tracked and collected since 2005. Pricing data is documented as it is captured in three key global trading centers for fancy color diamonds: Hong Kong, New York and Tel Aviv. Transaction prices and asking prices are reported to the FCRF by a select group of fancy color diamond experts and verified periodically by a pricing panel. Each index data set is based on diamonds traded and evaluated during six month time periods and as of July 2014 will be evaluated over a three month period.”

Supply and demand are the primary actors which contribute to the current price of white / colorless and fancy color diamonds, but other factors such as intensity of color and clarity of the diamond will affect the market price, as well as the mark-up of the individual diamond dealers. Internet prices for fancy color diamonds offered by Brian Gavin Diamonds tend to be lower than the prices you’ll find for diamonds of comparable carat weight, color, clarity, and intensity because we are competing globally for your business, and not just in our local market. Plus, we don’t have all that fancy showroom space, advertising cost, and lighting to pay for.
