Buying an engagement ring on a budget

Buying an engagement ring on a budget

You've decided that she's the one and you're ready to commit the rest of your life to her. A huge part of planning the perfect proposal is finding the perfect ring. While it should be special, not everyone can afford to break the bank. There's good news though! Amazing engagement rings can be purchased on a budget and will be sure to woo her and seal the deal with a definitive "yes."

After the recession a few years ago, the economy took a huge hit. Even though it's making its way back, sticking to a budget is still important to staying financially stable. There are plenty of options in the world of engagement rings, and there will certainly be the perfect ring out there to suit your girl as well as your budget.

Sticking to an engagement ring budget

Colored stones: There are no rules that say an engagement ring has to be a diamond ring. It's a growing trend today to instead opt for colored stones. Picking something other than a diamond can not only be more cost effective, but it also symbolizes something personal about your girl or your relationship. You could design a ring with her birthstone or using her favorite color. Maybe there's a color or stone type that reminds you of a special date or moment. Incorporating that into the ring makes it more personal and more of a treasure she'll love. Moonstones, citrine, peridot and pearls are alternative options, as are different colored sapphires.

Cut: Various cuts come in different price ranges. All are equally stunning, but some fit better into a specific budget. Emerald diamond cut stones have less facets but cover more surface area. Another less expensive option is a marquis cut diamond, an oval shape with points on the end. Princess, ovals a cushions can give a vintage feel without breaking the bank.

Pronged setting: A pronged setting means less metal needs to be used. This, in turn, lowers the cost of the ring. A pronged setting is a perfect way to highlight the diamond or other stone, especially if you chose a solitaire engagement ring. It also makes for easier cleaning.

Buy the set: You might be able to get a deal if you buy both the engagement ring and the wedding band at the same time. Make sure to inquire if any specials are happening - you may be able to save money.

No matter what you end up choosing, remember the ring is a symbol of your love and commitment to each other, not how big your bank account is. Choose a ring that is meaningful and it will be priceless.
